we are the generation brought up with the sino-japanese relationship as neighbours separated by a strip of water . as we all know, china and japan, are the two most important nations in east asia, whose trade has been so tightly bound with each other.
two days ago ,i read an article about sino-japanese relationship. according to the author, china and japan ,should abandon their mutually hostile attitudes on matters of history and politics and achieve agreement in some important fields. china and japan should have learned more from germany and france, which two have already achieved reconciliation and held hands together. however, due to the special history and character of the two nations, it is indeed very hard to imagine the chinese and the japanese doing the same. that is to say, there are still many obstacles, which are quite different from those between germany and france, existing in the way towards the true reconciliation.
i do agree with the author that china and japan should achieve a kind of reconciliation. but i find that the chance for such a reconciliation is quite slim.there are mainly two reasons supporting this opinion.
firstly, from the part of china, it will be quite difficult or even impossible for the chinese to totally put aside the suffering memory, not to mention forgive and reconcile with the japanese.
secondly, from the side of japan, conditions are almost equally complex and difficult.compared with the brutal deeds of the japanese army, the apology given by the prime minister seems too superficial . it could hardly heal the mental and spiritual wound of the asian people, not to mention solve the dispute between china and japan.
in a word, due to the special history and character of the two nations, i do think the chance for the reconciliation is quite slim. we still have a long way to go.

The author of In Praise of the Fighter says:
Riding on the ceaseless rushing torrent of life, I should pursue and overtake it so as to create an even greater and deeper torrent of my own.
If I were a lamp, it would be my duty to light up thick darkness. If I were the sea tide, I would marshal rolling waves to cleanse the beach of all accumulated filth.
This quotation reflects aptly the state of mind of a lighter.
Fighters are badly needed in our time. But such fighters do not necessarily go to the battle- field gun in hand. Their weapons are not necessarily bullets. Their weapons may be knowledge, faith and strong will. They can bring the enemy sure death without drawing his blood.
A fighter is always in pursuit of light. Instead of basking in the sunshine under a clear sky, he holds a burning torch in the darkness of night to illuminate people's way so that they can continue their journey till they see the dawn of a new day. It is the task of a fighter to dispel darkness. Instead of shirking darkness, he braves it and fights the hidden demons and monsters therein. He is determined to wipe them out and win light. He knows no compromise. He will keep on fighting until he wins light.
A fighter is perennially young. He is never irresolute or inactive. He plunges deep into teeming crowds in search of such vermin as flies and venomous mosquitoes. He will fight them relentlessly and refuse to coexist with them under the same sky. To him, life means nothing but continuous fighting. He either survives by winning light, or perishes with his body covered all over with cuts and bruises. In the course of the struggle, it is the "future" that serves as the beacon light to him; the "future" gives people hope and inspiration. He will never lose his youthful vigour.

On Courage
Hemingway often thought of courage as a person＇s ability to be calm and controlled in the face of death。 His theme is presented in his novel "For Whom the Bell Tolls?" the story "The Old Man and the Sea" and in our textbook "A Day＇s Wait"。 By misunderstanding a different thermometer the boy thought he was running a high fever and would soon die。 But he took his death bravely and waited quietly for it。 The boy showed us he had courage。
I think such a definition of courage is far from enough。 Courage should not be limited and related only to death。 In ordinary life there are common things that also show a person＇s courage。 For example， on a bus trip， a thief was trying to steal a girl＇s purse。 Some people saw it， but kept quiet。 They were afraid to be revenged by the thief。 The brave stood out and stopped the thief。
Courage means truth and justice to me。 The person in a high position often hear songs in praise of him。 Some people are sincere。 Some are only flattering the superior in their own favor。 The leader also needs courage to welcome criticism as well as those who have the courage to criticize him。 Such courage may come from mutual understanding。 I think a man of courage will value truth and justice， and not hesitate in his actions to do what he thinks is right， There is no such word as fear in his dictionary。
谈勇气
