　　A Regretful Thing

　　In the past three years, the life of middle school has impressed me deeply. Many stories happened. The following is one of them.

　　Xiao Ming was one of my good friends. One day, a little thing caused a serious quarrel between us. From then on, we didn’t talk to each other. I had hoped to make peace with him but I finally failed to do that because of my being afraid of losing face. Not until he moved to another city with his parents did I know I lost my friend forever.

　　The lesson I learned from this is that if you realize your mistakes, you should correct them at once, or you may leave yourself lasting regrets.

　　一件后悔的事

　　过去三年的初中生活，发生了许许多多的故事，给我留下了深刻的印象，下面这件事就是其中的一件。

　　小明是我的一位好朋友。有一天，因为一件很小的事情，我们发生了争吵。从那以后，我们彼此都不再说话。我曾想过和他重归于好，但是碍于情面最终还是不了了之。直到他和他的`父母搬去另外一个城市，我才意识到我永远地失去了一个好朋友。

　　从这件事情中，我懂得了一个道理：如果你认识到了自己的错误，就应当马上改正过来，否则你可能会永远活在后悔当中。

　　Contrary to the very popular belief that people who have suffered from hardship in their lives have stronger personalities, some researchers claim that hardships can be very misleading. As far as I am concerned, hardships cast negative influences on peoples lives.

　　Firstly, people who suffered from troubled lives are easily misled. Its found that while some people may indeed become more hard-nosed through adversity, the majority become less trusting of their own judgment. It surprisingly found that early negative experiences make people stronger in late life. Furthermore, the people who had experienced an adverse childhood and adolescence were more likely to come to believe information that is not true. Those people were more suggestible, and easily misled which in turn could affect their future.

　　首先，经历过困难生活的人很容易被误导，有发现表明虽然有些人通过不幸变得更加顽强，但是更多的人变得很少相信他们自己的判断。更让人吃惊的是，他们先前消极的经历使他们在以后的.生活中更强大。更有甚者，经历过不幸童年的人在青春期会更可能相信不真实的信息。这些人更容易受影响，更容易被误导，到头来会影响他们的未来。

　　Perseverance Of all the advantageous characteristics to have, I think that perseverance plays the greatest role in one’s success. Other characteristics, such as intelligence, confidence, and honesty, are no doubt important, but they do not necessarily guarantee success. Perseverance offers no guarantees either, but I believe that this trait offers one more opportunity to succeed.

　　There are several reasons why perseverance often leads to success. First of all, a man who has perseverance does not give up after a failure. He tries again and can, therefore, learn from his mistakes. Second, a persistent person is usually a hard worker, and hard work is an important ingredient in success. Last, with perseverance comes a certain amount of confidence — the confidence that one will eventually succeed.

　　For all of these reasons, I believe that perseverance is the most important characteristic to have. It is easily combined with other traits such as diligence and confidence to increase the chances of success. However, without perseverance, one’s success may be more dependent on luck than anything else.

　　In Tianjin,there are many buildings of bygone times.Some of them are imposing and have great artistic and historic value.However,these buildings do mot fit in well with each other,because most of them were built by foreigners in different times.The traffic in the city is not very convenient.The street are usually narrow and twisted.If the government wanted to have them widened,a large number of buildings would have to be pulled down.Some buildings are too old and are nothing more than cottages,and in place of them,some new high buildings have been set up.However,the new ones are still few and in many places they seem quite out of place.

　　Yet those Western-style buildings give Tianjin a different characteristic from other cities and those new ones lend the city fresh vitality which will spread rapidly with the reform going on.
